LOWER SHOSHONE – Golden stones and salmon flies are migrating to the edges in the canyon below the dam. Stonefly nymphs in a size 6-10 under a chubby has been the ticket. Nymph, dry/dropper and streamer rigs are all producing in town and further down river. Chubbies, duracells, optic nerves, pine squirrel leeches, thin mints and rusty trombones.
BIG HORN / WIND – Toss dry/dropper or nymph rigs in the shallower faster riffles. Perdigons, sow bugs, worms, Ray Charles, pine squirrel leeches, yuk bugs, thin mints, 9 lb hammers, cowbell craws, yuk dusters and zirdles.
NORTH FORK – The river is closed to fishing below Newton Creek until July 1st! Clarity above the closure and in some of the tributaries has improved as the flows continue to drop. Focus on the slower, deeper water with big stonefly nymphs and jigged soft hackles.
SOUTH FORK – River clarity looks good above Ishawooa Creek however flows are still quite big. Focus on the slower, deeper water with big stonefly nymphs or streamers.
CLARK’S FORK – There’s about 18″ of visibilty around the Drug Ranch. Salmon flies and golden stones should be close to popping.
GREYBULL / WOOD – Flows are still big but both rivers are starting to fish as clarity continues to improve. Stonefly nymphs and jigged soft hackles will be your best bet.
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK – Hoot Owl restrictions are in effect for the Firehole, Gibbon and Madison and all their tributaries which means fishing is not allowed after 2:00 PM. Yellowstone Lake is fishing well with a chironomid or balanced leech under a bobber, or sight fish the cruisers with a streamer.
NEWTON LAKES – Chironomids and balanced leeches under a bobber. Strip scuds, damsels or callibaetis nymphs. Damsels, callibaetis, ants and beetles on the surface.
LUCE/HOGAN RESERVOIRS – Chironomids and balanced leeches under a bobber. Strip scuds, damsels or callibaetis nymphs. Damsels, callibaetis, ants and beetles on the surface.
